On Thursday, Mumbaiites observed the nation’s 67th Independence Day on a
social note. The Watchdog Foundation, a nonprofit that deals with civic
issues, raised the cause of potholes. Around 100 people gathered at
Marol and distributed Iodex bottles to motorists. “It was to show we
understand their woes as the civic body is not interested in filling
potholes,” said Nicholas Almeida, trustee of the organisation. In
another part of the city, around 60 students from Lala Lajpatrai College
picked up discarded flags across south Mumbai. Nearly 540 flags of all
sizes were collected from Churchgate station, Gateway of India, Marine
Drive and Girgaum Chowpatty.
