Like to play it safe with your make-up? Well, look around. You’ll find enough reasons not to. Bright shades like corals, fuchsia pinks, peach oranges, blues and purples are very much in vogue when it comes to flaunting them on your eyes and lips. They are a hit both at workplace and night outs. Beauty experts credit this trend to the upcoming spring/summer fashion season, wherein pop colours are almost always in demand.
Hair and make-up artiste Sangeeta Khanna explains the trend, saying, “These are fun colours and definitely make you stand out. Of late, women are wearing such shades on a regular basis, mostly coral lipstick. It’s surely the colour of the season.” Her tip to wear the colour right is that “the intensity of the shade needs to be controlled according to one’s skin tone”. “Coral is an all-time colour. It could be your lipstick, eye-shadow, or even blushers. You can choose a darker coral shade if you’re fair, while subtlety works better on dusky people, thus harmonising well with the skin tone,” she says.

Make-up artiste Piyu Palkar elaborates, “Nude is done to death. Hence beauty products are going bold now, what with pinks and fluorescent corals coming in. Darker-skinned people should go for pop coloured eyes and soft, nude lips. You could even create a new shade by mixing coral and pink, or use it as a blush.” She advises one to wear candy floss nail paint or bubble gum coloured pumps to accessorise the look. “And if you’ve got pouty lips, highlight with pop shades, but don’t go overboard with eyes please,” Piyu warns.
Even though actor Dipannita Sharma doesn’t really prefer to wear pop colours as such, she does agree that they’re hot right now. “Fluorescent, psychedelic colours are in for sure. I think it’s a seasonal thing. But wearing it is not everybody’s cup of tea. For me, pop colours are one-season colours and how you wear them depends on your personality,” she says.
