Bizarre injuries in the world of sports

The 21-year-old Canadian tennis sensation Eugenie Bouchard who entertained Flushing Meadows with her jovial countenance during her mixed doubles match, paired with hot-headed Aussie Nick Kyrgios, tripped in the locker room, hitting her head, shortly after she got off the court.Eugene had to withdraw from the US Open post her weird fall. There are other bizarre incidents where some talented sportspersons managed to injure themselves in the strangest ways possible...

  KEN GRIFFEY JR'S PINCHING BLUES
Former professional baseball player Ken Griffey Junior missed on a game in 2006 when his protective cup slipped and pinched a testicle. The incident also made him the butt of many a locker room joke. Griffey is a Hall of Famer when it comes to self-inflicted injuries. He had been held out of play by eight unrelated injuries, the second most embarrassing being a broken hand sustained while wrestling with his son on his yacht in the Bahamas.

DARREN FLETCHER TOILET WOES
When you're getting up off the toi let, you're really not expecting any flying objects to be coming at you.
But former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher learned the hard way that you apparently have to keep your head on a swivel at all times, as a crash ing door did some serious damage to his forehead.

DAVID SEAMAN'S BONE-BREAKING LEGEND
Former English footballer David Seaman played as a goalkeeper for several clubs, most notably Arsenal. But what is even more memorable is the fact that Seaman's injury record ranks right up there. In his first season with Arsenal, he let past just 18 goals, allowing the club to retain their league title. Five years later, he made a record as he allowed 17 goals in all 38 games. Then, the injuries began piling up and Seaman was like a one man emergency room. First, he injured his shoulder trying to reel in a big carp on a fishing trip. Later, he broke a bone while reaching for a television remote.

BILL GRAMATICA'S GREEK TRAGEDY
It has earned its rightful place as one of the funniest incidents in sports and full marks to Arizona Cardinals' former kicker Bill Gramatica for this `feat'. After nailing a 42-yard field goal in the game, Gramatica jumped in joy and then descended to the ground, where he suffered a torn ACL. Gramatica's injury on the field goal celebration meant he was sidelined for the ensuing kickoff, and it was Pat Tillman, who handled the kick.

ROGER CRAIG'S NOT SO COOL CUT
The baseball world will always remember Roger as the master craftsman of split finger fastball with the New York Mets, where he won 15 of the 27 games he pitched.Later, as a manager and coach, he helped turn the San Francisco Giants into a powerhouse in the 1980s, sending them to their first World Series in more than 25 years. So, when the celebrity mentor seriously cut his hand on a bra strap, he had to face many ribald jokes. Interestingly, Craig admitted to it and didn't even try to concoct a story to cover it up, apparently enjoying his Casanova image.

JASON PIERREPAUL'S FIREWORKS
There are always warnings about the risks and hazards involved with shooting off fireworks. Popular American footballer Jason Pierre-Paul suffered a serious hand injury, setting off fourth of July fireworks at his South Florida home earlier this year. People claiming to be his neighbours took to a social networking site to post pictures of a U-Haul supposedly rented by Pierre-Paul filled with boxes of fireworks. One of those neighbours wrote, “I'm currently scared for my home's safety .''
