Tips to avoid your red lipstick from bleeding

Tips to avoid your red lipstick from bleeding

Red lipstick woes strike even the most diligent of makeup users. While a bold red pout can be an instant deal maker, it can also break the deal if the lipstick stains your teeth or worse, if the lip colour bleeds and forms an outer ring around your mouth. To avoid such a disaster, follow these steps to sport those perfectly crafted, enchanting red lips:

Rub a toothbrush lightly over your lips to remove any extra skin. Then, apply lip balm, covering your lips entirely.
Now, line your lips with a nude lip liner. Otherwise, choose the same shade of liner as your lipstick and make a neat line.
Fill your lips with the lip liner. Now apply lipstick.
After you are done, put your index finger in your mouth and gently pull it out. The excess colour will transfer to your finger and leave your lips smudge-free.
Lastly, smile. Not just for that added oomph but also to ensure that there is no excess colour on the sides or the joints of your lips. Wipe any extra colour.

Various fun activities to plan with your partner

Various fun activities to plan with your partner

If you’ve had an arranged marriage, chances are that there’s still a lot for you to find out about your partner. Many couples who choose to take the arranged marriage route these days are given the liberty of spending time with each other, but this may not always happen, perhaps due to distance or time constraints. Here are a few ways that you can bond with your partner after you tie the knot...

BINGE-WATCHING
This is one of the best ways to get to know your partner’s likes and dislikes. Pay attention to the jokes he/she laughs at, what moments capture his/her attention, what makes him/her cry (if at all), and so on. All you need is to find a TV show that you both want to watch and you’re set.

WORKING OUT TOGETHER

If you are a fitness freak and your partner is not, you can motivate him/her to start working out to stay fit. Choose any activity that you are both interested in, such as going to the gym, playing a sport or swimming.

COOK A MEAL TOGETHER

This will not only help you bond better, but will also make you a team. If you are the one who enjoys cooking, ask your partner to help with cutting vegetables and washing the dishes. This will help you identify what your partner is comfortable doing.

    PLAY GAMES

Playing different kinds of games will help you figure out how your partner thinks. This, in turn, will aid in understanding him/her better. Play word games, strategy games or board games — whatever catches your fancy, as long as you have fun in the bargain.

GO HIKING
Going on a trip is a great way to get to know your partner, especially when it is just the two of you that go on the holiday. Go on a hiking trip or trek into a forest. The peace and quiet calms one down, making it a great place to talk about anything under the sun.

FORGET ABOUT YOUR MOBILE PHONE FOR A BIT
While gadgets have enhanced our lives in many ways, there are times when technology, especially mobile phones, hamper relationships. The beeping of a phone can get very distracting and you could forget to listen to what the other person is saying. So, keep your phone aside for a couple of hours and communicate with each other instead.

Trimming off the ‘Friend Flab’

Trimming off the ‘Friend Flab’

Actress and singer Selena Gomez recently unfollowed everyone from one of her social networks. Far from being impulsive, this is actually called a ‘Friend Purge’. And here’s why people do it...

It was around three or four years ago that popular US TV show host Jimmy Kimmel declared that November 17 should be ‘Happy National Unfriend Day’. Nowadays, people don’t wait for a particular day. A few days ago, singer Selena Gomez suddenly unfollowed everyone on her photo-sharing site.

Most of us know someone who has done a mass unfriending for some reason or the other. It is different from a ‘digital detox’. In this case, you aren’t tired of the medium, but rather, of seeing the same bunch of people (or strangers) day in and day out and
the stuff they post.

“A friend purge is almost like a master cleanse of one’s social network. Every once in a while when I go overboard with accepting ‘friend’ requests, I tend to give myself a good unfriending session... And get rid of contacts that make my timeline/ news feed toxic to even look at,” says Padmini Bhonsale, who works in a Human Resources firm. “A friend who had made some regrettable choices about who to follow on a microblogging site described logging on to her timeline like ‘walking into a room full of people who are all shouting random sentences at each other, with no connection whatso
ever,” adds photographer Trisha Brooks. There are other annoyances too. “People seem to have genuinely lost the freaking plot when it comes to using hashtags” is what a fashion photographer recently put as his status update.

Some describe this purging as being easy as there’s no emotional angle to unfriending or unfollowing
people who you’ve never met in real life. But is there really no emotional connection between you and your online ‘friends’? And can ‘less is more’ be better when it comes to one’s friend and follower count?
Two studies from the University of Colorado in Denver conducted this year, shed new light on the most common type of person to be
unfriended and their emotional responses to it (See boxes). Apparently, those with “polarising comments, often about religion or politics” were found to be tiresome and would typically be the first to get the axe. “The other big reason for unfriending was frequent, uninteresting posts,” said a researcher who participated in the study.

So, and as earlier mentioned, it’s probably not people you dislike, but the stuff that they share/post/repost. Social networking websites use algorithms that combine variables such as what you ‘like’ and what others similarly find interesting. But this often goes wrong. A hilarious video on a video-sharing website might get almost a thousand up-votes, while a story about the missing Malaysian airline would not, even though the latter is news that concerns many nations and one of the most mysterious cases in recent times. This results in a timeline that gets cluttered with the cyber equivalent of junk food and truncated attention spans — you get stories that an algorithm thinks is interesting, as opposed to what is genuinely interesting.

Others are ambivalent. Such as hotelier Kush Kotwani, who says, “I consciously restrict my friend list to family and friends I know in real life. I am an infrequent user and so when I do log on, I am more amused than irritated by some of the things I see. Unfriending people can be mean, so I just choose to ignore.” Lastly, reasons for a ‘friend purge’ could also be none of the above. Perhaps it’s just ‘friend fatigue’ and we’d simply like to interact with a different bunch of people instead.

TOP TYPES OF PEOPLE WHO ARE THE FIRST TO BE UNFRIENDED ACCORDING TO THE STUDY:
1 High School friends
2 Random adds
3 Friend of a friend
4 Work friends
5 Common interest friend     (when interests become divergent)

A protein-rich breakfast is essential for your health

A protein-rich breakfast is essential for your health

Anew study has found that a breakfast rich in protein can provide better appetite and glucose control as compared to eating a lower-protein breakfast. Researchers tested the short-term satiety effects of six breakfast meals similar in calories, fat and
fibre and varied in protein. Participants were asked to rate their level of hunger before breakfast and at 30-minute intervals for four hours. After four hours, a pasta lunch was served and subjects were asked to eat until comfortably full. Participants who ate the higher-protein breakfasts had improved appetite ratings throughout the morning, and also consumed fewer calories during lunch
