how you can manage your professional and personal life?

Strike the right balance between work and life

Here’s how you can manage your professional and personal life

Life becomes tiring and boring when you have no time either for yourself or your family and friends. This leads to the built-up of frustration, anger and feeling of loneliness. Says clinical psychologist Seema Hingorrany, “There is a high probability of your relationships going through a tough phase when you do not compartmentalise between your work and personal life.”

PREPARE FOR THE DAY One of the ways you can easily strike a balance between the two is by making sure that you have everything planned for the day. Whether it is listing down things that you need to do at work or when you get back home. This list will help you engage yourself better at your duties without bugging you about what you need to prioritise.

SCHEDULE WORK AT OFFICE When at work, make sure that you not only complete your tasks on time but also list out how you are going to go about it. Whether it is preparing for a meeting, or making a presentation — when you sched
ule your work according to the time slotted, you will be able to work faster and also deliver brilliant results.

IF YOU ARE GOING SLOW ON TRACKS, RESCHEDULE

At times following a particular schedule does become difficult, so a better way to ensure that you complete your tasks on time is by rescheduling it
to the next day. Adds Hingorrany, “For example you have an urgent meeting at work but you’ve also made plans with your spouse for dinner, send a text or give a call or rather send a bouquet of flowers with a note saying you will be home late but will make up for it. This way you will avoid the trouble of having a fight at home and also ruining your own mood.”

WHEN AT HOME, DON’T THINK ABOUT WORK The most important thing that you need to do to ensure that you. So busy we are with our work life that we tend to carry it home with us on weekends or holidays. There can be nothing more frustrating for your family/friends other than this. Though you might it pretty difficult in the beginning, but learn to wipe your mind off work once you reach home.

TALK TO LOVED ONES AS MUCH AS YOU CAN There’s no better way of relieving stress other than communicating to your near and dear ones after a rough day at work. Though a lot of people like to stay alone and do things alone after a tiring day at work, yet make it a point to talk to your near and dear ones whenever you get time. Remember that the energy you spend at office shouldn’t become a punishment for your family.

MAKE YOUR HOLIDAYS MEMORABLE Whether you’ve gone for a vacation or at home on the weekends, do something with your family every time. For example, you can prepare good food or invite relatives over or maybe go out for a long drive. Most couples have fights because their spouse does not have the time to go out with them or plan a vacation due to work. To avoid this, make sure that the time that you get to spend with your partner.

POINTS TO REMEMBER Make sure that you stay connected with your spouse/partner through emails and messages. Take up a hobby like going to the gym, playing chess, practicing yoga or meditation so that you are not too stressed with work. Help your spouse over the weekend. For example, prepare meals or do housework together.

Is your girlfriend a dictator?

SIGNS YOU’RE DATING A CONTROL FREAK

Here’s what you must look out for to know if your woman is someone who loves to dictate terms to you all the time

Ever heard taunts from friends who have stated what a puppet you are in your lady’s hands? Do you think
you’ve never had an opinion any time you wanted to, only because your girlfriend is busy opining on your behalf ? Do you feel that you’re dictated terms to, but are always made to believe that the deed’s done for your good? Maybe it isn’t the way it seems! You are probably dating a control freak, who loves to make you live your life her way. Here are the indications that your partner is one:

>> POSSESSIVE TO THE CORE: Yes, this is a key and, probably, the first sign your partner will show when she’s a control freak. Can she never take situations lightly especially when it deals with other women? Is she always suspecting you of hitting on others? Does she make a scene to show you off in front of people because she wants to prove you belong to her? That surely is an indicator.
>> YOU ARE NOT ‘YOU’ ANYMORE: When your friends start complaining that you’ve changed excessively and try explaining the change to you, that’s a sign. Remember, friends always get to know such things before anyone else, and will hint about it to you too.

>> SHE NEEDS TO KNOW EVERY TAKE: No matter how personal it be, no matter which friend it is about, your girlfriend needs to know the details like nobody else does. And God forbid, if you decide not to tell her about something, the drama that follows, will totally not be worth the trouble.

>> QUITE YOUR MOM SHE BE: Yes, she acts like she’s the new mommy in your life. There’s a list of do’s and don’ts she chalks out for you, and also a list of what is good and/or bad for you; just that she adds endearments like baby, honey, darling, along with the lineup! And she’s so busy telling you right from wrong, that by now you start thinking the way she does, liking and disliking everything she does.

>> YOU ARE ALWAYS ANSWERABLE TO HER: No matter what happens, your girlfriend will want a justification included with the account. If you notice that you are defending yourself most of the times before her, she’s a control freak. She needs to know your every move, that’s how she likes it, thus she makes sure you let her know the reasons why you’ve done a certain thing or behaved in a certain way.

>> INVOLVES FAMILY: So you’ve done something without
telling your parents and your girlfriend doesn’t approve of it either. Here’s when she plays her trump card, informs your parents on your behalf thereby endearing herself to them and leaving you to face the brickbats alone. But hey! it’s for “your good” anyway. “Stop cribbing.”

>> SHE SPIES: When your girlfriend is sleuthing around and busy gathering information about you from close friends, she’s controlling. Get to know how often she speaks to your friends and whether she inquires much about you?

Is your friend a toxic one?

Is your friend a toxic one?

Take this quiz to know if your friend is someone who doesn’t want to see you happy

While knowing that a friend can be toxic is easy, spotting one out of your circle of buddies may be very difficult. Friendship is based on trust, and, at times, unconditional trust can make one not notice things. Certain kind of friends can use unconditional trust to bring about negativity and unhappiness in your life. If you think you know one such person, who is supposedly a friend but probably has vested interests, take this quiz to be sure of it.

You’ve passed an exam your friend couldn't clear. The next level post the exam is making you extremely nervous but you want to clear it by hook or by crook. Your friend: A. Encourages you because she is very happy that at least you cleared the test. B. Is extremely upset that she couldn’t clear the exam. Instead of encouraging you, he/she decides to narrate failure stories of people who’ve appeared for the level too.

Something happened in your life months back and you confide in your friend about it. At the next get-together, a related incident takes place with another friend. Your friend: A. Doesn’t reveal your secret to anyone. B. Decides to narrate your experience as a case study to people, thinking it’s okay to tell them.

You have been gymming, but still haven’t been able to reduce your weight and are extremely conscious about it (which most people know). Your friend: A. Tells you it’s okay to be a little healthy, and gives you company to workout. B. Makes fun of how you can’t fit into this one perfect dress that you love, just because you eat so much.

Does your friend make you feel upset most of the time, never helping you when you feel low? A. My friend never does that. B. Yes, most of the times.

Do you enjoy the company of this friend, or does he/she never miss a chance to hamper
your self-esteem? A. I love spending time with my buddy, and just can’t do without him/her. B. Sometimes, I feel my friend can never be nice to me, and makes me feel bad about myself.

Has your friend ever broken your trust without being sorry about it? A. Never. B. Way too many times.

IF MOST OF THE ANSWERS ARE: A’s: You have a friend worth keeping. He/she is extremely loyal to you, keeps you happy most of the times and most importantly, will never leave your side, come what may. Be with them like they’ve always been with you; we see bonding of a lifetime here.
B’s: Sorry to say, but you’re friends with a toxic personality who doesn’t care one bit about you. Your so-called friend is all about him/herself and sees no reason why he/she should care for your feelings. We suggest you say no to their company, so that you stay happy. Make friends wisely.

FLASHMOB MAKES IT TO DICTIONARY!

FLASHMOB MAKES IT TO DICTIONARY!

Looking to make a point? Do it flashmob-style seems to be the new-age mantra. For impromptu street acts, people suddenly breaking out into a song or jig, and spontaneous huge group demonstrations are fast catching on as the new craze! Not just this, the ‘flashmob’ gets official now, as it has become part of the Oxford dictionary! It finds its way there along with ‘tweet’, ‘geekery’ and 1,200 new or revised words. Considered ‘cool’, this is the new-age way to say what you feel, along with a lot of people. So what’s the whole brouhaha really about?
WHAT IT IS

Flashmob is a large group of people organised by means of the internet, or mobile phones or other wireless devices, who assemble in public to perform a prearranged action together and then quickly disperse. Advantages? The biggest platform (it’s out in the open), free publicity, and supported by freedom of action (you can yell as loud as you like on the roads)! While it’s still finding its feet back home, the flashmob is extremely popular abroad. This February, 200 people in New York City staged a flashmob at Times Square to protest gun violence. Movies have shown the trend too.
FLASH PROPOSALS

Apart from campus and street-style flashmobs for social causes, there’s another reason to have a flashmob — that is to ask someone to say, ‘I do’, creatively! Flash proposals with Bruno Mars’ Marry You and Jay Sean’s I’m All Yours add to the over-the-top displays of affection to tell your better half what you feel. Of course, this one can cost a bundle with choreograpghers, DJs, flowers, costumes and more. The guy usually stages the whole affair, brings along his gal to the place where it’s to happen and as the flashmob takes off, he proposes. In such a flashmob in Boston last year, a man even
arranged to do it in a military style, where hundreds of people approached the lady after work. They just surrounded her and suddenly the guy slipped off, got into his tuxe, grabbed a mike and asked for her hand in marriage. She loved it!
MUMBAI’S FLASHMOBS

In 2011, Shonan Kothari, a 23-year-old girl, started dancing in the middle of the bustling Chhatrapati
Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station to the title track of Rang De Basanti. Soon, she was joined by 200 others. Videos of the performance went crazy on social networking sites and introduced folks to the flashmob phenomenon. And in March 2012, Mumbai 143, said to be India’s biggest flashmob, got over 1,200 people foot-tapping to the spirit of Mumbai at the Gateway of India. Then, this June, over 400 children participated in a flashmob in Delhi to create awareness about malnutrition. Sometimes, having a ‘herd mentality’ is a good thing.

How to take care of eyes in Mansoon?

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR TROUBLE

During the monsoon, the eyes are susceptible to various types of infections. Here’s how to steer clear of them

Lisa Antao

While we take several health precautions during monsoons — be it avoiding street food or not getting drenched — most people forget to protect their eyes from the onslaught of rains. During this season, our eyes are susceptible to various types of infections — the most common being conjunctivitis. Here’s how some simple measures can keep trouble at bay...

INFECTIONS GALORE

Wet surroundings, high levels of humidity, stagnant water and a general dip in hygiene — a scenario that typifies the Mumbai monsoon — brings along with it a host of eye infections. Says consultant ophthalmologist Dr Ryan D’Souza, “This, coupled with a general decrease in immunity due to associated infections and allergies, especially of the paranasal sinuses and upper respiratory tract, make the eyes more prone to various ailments.”

CONJUNCTIVITIS ON THE RISE

Conjunctivitis is a highly contagious eye infection that’s common during monsoon. The last three weeks have witnessed an increase in its incidence in Mumbai. “Conjunctivitis cases are reported every monsoon, but this year, it is manifold,” says consultant ophthalmologist Dr Keiki R Mehta, adding that the infection is caused either by enterovirus or adenovirus. While the latter causes hemorrhagic conjunctivitis — 10 to 20% of the cases belong to this category — the former leads to pharyngoconjunctival fever, which includes sore throat, fever and conjunctivitis.
General physician Dr Saleem Tole, who has encountered about 20 to 25 cases of conjunctivitis in a month, has observed that in about 10 cases patients have complained about blurry vision. “The blurring of vision aspect is something that I haven’t come across before. This mostly happened during summer but it can’t be totally ruled out during the monsoons,” he says.

SYMPTOMS

The symptoms of normal conjunctivitis include the sensation of a foreign body in the eye, watering, discharge and redness. Usually, one eye gets affected followed by the second. The inner corners of the eye and the inner parts of the lids swell and turn red. Watery, mucous or pus-like discharge glues the lids. The infection lasts for three-to-five days and antibiotic eye drops are administered for relief.
“Irritation and heaviness of eyes, sensitivity to light, red spots — small or big, swelling of the glands in front of the ears, fever and common cold with throat ache can be associated with certain subtypes of viral conjunctivitis,” adds Dr Mehta.

OTHER COMMON EYE INFECTIONS

EYE STYE This causes a lump along the eyelid. “It is a bacterial infection caused by the blockage of the ducts of the glands present in eyelids,” explains ophthalmologist Dr Anagha Heroor. Eye stye can be cured with wet and warm compresses. In case of increased irritation and pain, antibiotics and nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory medication are prescribed.

CORNEA ULCERS

Frequent rubbing, especially by contact-lens wearers, may contaminate the external surface of the eye. It could result in a serious, potentially blinding condition called corneal ulcer. “This is typified by redness, moderate to severe pain, increased watering and sensitivity to light. It may also be associated with a yellowish-green sticky discharge and white lesions on the pupil of the eye,” explains Dr D’Souza. This condition needs immediate medical attention. Once the symptoms start, wear protective eyewear and avoid contact with the eye till a doctor examines you.

DRY EYES

Dry eyes in monsoon? Yes, exposure to cold air and wind can cause this condition. “Our eyes require constant flow of tears — moisturising is a must to sustain vision. An imbalance in tear flow may cause dry eyes, which leads to irritation and blurred vision. This condition can also be caused by excessive heat, smoke, fumes and chemicals. Though curable with eye drops, surgery may be required in some cases,” says Dr Heroor.

PRECAUTIONS Conjunctivitis spreads through direct contact. So, affected persons must avoid crowded places. Avoid air-conditioned places as the infection spreads faster in such an atmosphere. Isolate personal belongings — cosmetics, soaps, towels, pillow covers, etc. Use disposable tissues instead of handkerchiefs or towels to dab (do not rub them) your eyes. Keep washing your hands. Gently dab the tears to prevent hemorrhages or red spots. Do not sleep on the unaffected side.

DON’T PLAY DOCTOR

Whatever be the nature of your eye infection, don’t self-medicate. Steroid eye drops — available over-the-counter — can worsen the infection. In severe cases, it could even lead to corneal ulcers and blindness.

Beware of Conjunctivitis as it’s highly contagious and common during monsoon

Bullying by siblings as harmful as by peers

Bullying by siblings as harmful as by peers

Bullying by siblings is related to the same serious mental health effects as peer bullying, a new study has found. The study looked at the effects of physical assault, property aggression like stealing something or
breaking a siblings' things on purpose, and psychological aggression like saying things that made a sibling feel bad or scared. An important implication was that parents and caregivers should take sibling aggression seriously.

Mistakes in foundation application

Mistakes in foundation application

Never seem to get this integral part of makeup right? Read on to be a pro

Most women continue applying foundation with a heavy hand and are blissfully unaware of the faux pas they are committing. Read our list to make sure you aren’t committing any of these mistakes and how to avoid them while applying foundation:

Powder foundation is a no-no: Choosing powder foundation over a liquid formula is one of the silliest mistakes. Not only does it dry out your skin but it also looks cakey. Foundation should become one with your skin. Powder foundation does not look natural and it also has a tendency to crease while settling into wrinkles and fine lines. Enough reasons to stay away from there.

Testing foundation: Most sales assistants will insist you try a swatch on the inside of your wrists but it makes sense to try foundation on your jaw line, under your eyes and on or around your nose. This eliminates any chance of confusion over the right shade. The perfect foundation should seamlessly blend into your skin. When in doubt about which shade suits you best, always go with the darker one.

Brushes over sponge and finger: You might get heavy-handed while using their fingers to apply foundation. Also, it is can result in breakouts if forget to wash your hands. Sponges absorb most of the foundation thereby wasting expensive product. The best bet is to use foundation for a clean, smooth application.

How to take care Long nails?

MAKING ACRYLIC NAILS LAST LONGER

Long nails in an instant sounds great, but maintaining them can take a little working. Here’s help in that regard...

Tiny, barely-there, chewed-up nails can be quite an eyesore. Strong, long, well-maintained nails add to a woman’s femininity. However, some people have genetically weak nails, while others don’t care for theirs enough. Acrylic nails can be a lifesaver in either situation, especially when you want long nails in an instant. Maintaining them is a task, though. Here are a few things you must keep in mind while tending to your acrylics:
No pressure, no breakage Are you used to subjecting your nails to pressure, using them to prise open things? Well, you need to stop doing that — it makes your nails weak and leads to breakage. It is especially bad when you have long acrylic nails. Not only do you run the risk of breaking your acrylic nail, it could also pull your natural nail off the nail bed. Painful!
Oiling your cuticles Cuticles need to be pushed back from time-to-time; otherwise, they tend to grow over your nails, making them look ugly. Make sure you apply some cuticle oil to soften them. An easy and ideal routine would be to wash your hands and moisturise them before turning in every night.
Filing your acrylics Extremely long nails (and acrylic nails at that) spell trouble. They are brittle and tend to break under slightest pressure. You must file them down gently so that they don’t snag.
Protect while working It is common knowledge that detergents contain harsh chemicals that dry out your nails and hands. They are even more detrimental to your acrylic nails. So, wear gloves when you are working with suds or are performing household chores.
Don’t ignore lifts Acrylics tend to come off after a while. You must get your acrylics closed if they come off the nail bed even slightly. Visit the salon where you got it done and get the lifts filled — the air gaps are a perfect breeding ground for bacterial and fungal growth. This can lead to discolouration of your natural nail and deterioration of the nail bed.
Don’t glue it Don’t even think of trying an at-home DIY when you notice a lift in your acrylics. Applying glue to fill in the lift is the worst mistake you can make. The moisture in the glue attracts fungi and bacteria. Filling your lift with glue will definitely infect your nails.
Touch-up and breather If you intend to keep your acrylics for long, make sure to get a touch-up done every two weeks. That’s because the gap between your natural nail and the acrylic gets wider with time and your acrylics start wearing off. Also, make sure you give your nails ample time to breath between each session. Do not keep your acrylics on for more than three to four weeks at a time.

The music of Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Fukrey seems to have caught on. Ambarsariya, a romantic track by Sona Mohapatra — she is the executive producer of the album — is very popular. The recently launched song Jugaad, which has a qawaali feel to it, is also doing pretty well.
“The idea was to make a young, irreverent, funky soundtrack that represents the youth of India who don’t have money or connections. It was also important for
me to be true to the landscape of the film, create songs and a background score that help tell a parallel story in sync with the writer-directors’ vision and not mere promotional tracks that have no real connection to the characters or setting,” explains music composer, Ram Sampath.
Says Sona, “Fukrey is a joyride set in Delhi, specifically in a Punjabi neighbourhood. I visualised the song from the principal male characters’ perspective. Ram’s instinct
was that the film would benefit from a simple love song.” Though most of the songs have been released, one track — Lag Gayi Lottery — has been held back. It will be released along with the film.
The film, directed by Mrigdeep Lamba, is about four friends and their college-life escapades. It stars Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Ali Fazal, Varun Sharma and Richa Chadda in main roles.
Fukrey, produced by Excel Entertainment, releases June 14.

Researchers also say that age has a co-relation with wearing heels

It takes a little more than an hour for the pain to kick in while wearing high heels, a new study has revealed.
Most women report that high heels start to hurt after one hour and six minutes, while 20% say that they can feel the pain after just 10 minutes.
In a new British survey of 2,000 men and women and 60 podiatrists conducted by The College of Podiatry, about half of women said that they suffered foot problems after wearing uncomfortable shoes.
More than 40% of women said that they'll suffer for the sake of fashion, while only 12% of men said that they’d do the same.
When the pain gets too much, one in four women said that they have resorted to dancing
barefoot in a nightclub or bar, while a third of women said that they have walked home barefoot due to throbbing feet.
Women in the survey on average said that they own 17 pairs of shoes, while men said that they own eight.
The younger the woman, the higher the heels, with 20% of women aged 18-24 owning a pair of six-inch high heeled shoes compared to 10% of those aged 25-42.
Perhaps it's no surprise but women were also found
to have more foot ailments than men, with 90% saying that they have experienced problems, ranging from blisters to muscular problems.
Twenty percent of women said that there were “embarrassed” by their feet, with another 12% so ashamed that they always covered them up.

What kind of a bus person are you?

What kind of a bus person are you?

Commuting by buses can be quite eventful in the city. Here are some of varied travellers you may encounter

Athough railways are considered a lifeline in Mumbai, many people prefer taking the bus — BEST or city AC — to work everyday. If you are one of those who travels to and fro this way, you must have found the journey mundane, at times. But you can add some fun to the commute. People-watching or observing the crowd guarantees an interesting, if not fun, ride to your destination. There are quite a varied bunch of commuters found on the bus. We’ve categorised a few for you...

THE PHILANTHROPIST This kind will mostly be spotted at the door of the bus and often facilitate the smooth movement of crowd that enters and exits the vehicle. He believes he is rendering service to humanity by doing so. Usually, a beefy, macho character, sporting a cheerful and bindaas attitude, can be found under this section.
THE HI-BYE FRIEND This person will befriend strangers with a heart-warming smile and keep his interaction restricted to a daily ‘hi-bye’. Daily commuters on the same bus with the same people fall under this category.
THE NEWS LOVERS Think you’re missing out on news? Don’t worry! There will be that one person who likes to think of himself as a prime-time news host. He often finds a way of initiating a political debate and commenting on the government policies among middle-aged men. Once the debate has been instigated, he then takes on the role of a spectator as the debaters continue arguing their heart out, in a desperate attempt to hog imaginary glory. Under the category of debaters also fall the self-proclaimed critics, who think it is their responsibility to criticise anything and everything to restore the balance of power to the chaotic order of the world.
Persons uninterested in debates but with a keen interest in news will be seen deeply engrossed in reading the newspaper. However, if you manage to disturb him, brace yourself for receiving the dirtiest look that he can — and will — throw at you.
THE PHILOSOPHER He usually occupies the window seat and is lost in thoughts throughout the
journey, trying to find the answer to seemingly impossible-to-answer questions. Try to interrupt his chain of thought, and see the ‘look’ you get. Shiva Kumar, a regular commuter, tells us, “I tried talking to a person seated at the window, but he gave me the ultimate look, which said a lot, and I knew it was time to back out.”
MUSIC LOVERS People playing loud songs from cheap China phones is not uncommon in our city buses. While you are most commonly greeted with the latest filmi numbers, a young boy who cares a lot about being ‘cool’ will be heard listening to the hottest songs from B-town. Others not so blatant about their love for music, listen to the radio or a playlist using headphones or earphones.
THE GADGET FREAK This kind will be so engrossed in his latest state-of-the-art tech device, like a smartphone, tablet or laptop, all the time, that some people start thinking of him as a showoff. A few think he is ultra
cool, while others think he is a snob. Fellow travellers like to think of him as a computer salesman and pour out their list of questions and ask him for advice on which laptop or mobile to purchase.
ZZzzz... Then there are some people who waste absolutely no time in catching up on their sleep while commuting. In all probability, they’re so tired of working that sleep forces itself on them. Not just people who sit, some people doze off even while standing!
THE SILENT CREEP He is the person who steps in like a robust personality and stands right in the middle of the bus. Sashi Goud, a commuter, observes, “I see a man everyday on the bus, who occupies the middle section. When there is a huge crowd, he takes advantage of the situation and falls on the women standing in front. These women can’t even complain because the bus is overcrowded.”
THE ARTIST This is the guy who either occupies the window seat or accompanies the ‘philanthropist’. He has the uncontrollable urge to chew pan/gutka or zarda. Consequently, he spits out a jet of maroon fluid from the door/window, often aiming for corners of the road or objects along the way, leaving behind interesting patterns of red. He often has a self-issued restraining order, requiring people to stay at least 2-3 feet away from him (owing to the foul stink of what he is chewing).

Make your marriage last longer

Love is not enough to bind your relationship. Here are a few points you need to keep in mind to make your marriage last longer

No marriage is perfect but if your marriage is not strong enough, it can be very difficult to keep it going for a very long time. Everybody leads a busy life but if you do not work towards having a happy life ahead together, your marriage may break apart.

1 MAKE TIME FOR EACH OTHER

One of the most important factors required to keep your marriage going is taking out some time for one another. It is crucial to understand that your marriage is a large part of your life and it deserves your time. Make an effort to go out
for dinner with your spouse, movie or a drive over the weekend. 2 PLAN YOUR FINANCES
It goes without saying that finances play a very important role in your marriage. According to polls and survey reports, nearly 40% of married people admit to lying to their spouses about a particular purchase. Money woes can have a serious impact on your marriage. To avoid such problems, make sure that you and your partner discuss and agree upon hard financial ground rules and keep those going for the rest of your lives.

3 DON’T MAKE SEX A CHORE

Sex should be your priority in a marriage, but don't schedule it — otherwise it becomes a responsibility just like doing an everyday task. Address problems like a teamYou cannot operate alone in a marriage. Teamwork is essential. Thus whether it is taking decisions about your children or any other family matters, make sure that the two of you deal with the situation together. Not only will you find solutions to the problem but it will also help your bond grow stronger.

4 COMMUNICATION — A TWO WAY PROCESS
A lot of relationships fail because of miscommunication. Communication should not be a one way process in a relationship, rather a two way one. For instance, if there is a hint or vibe that your partner is disconnected or unhappy about something, do not ignore the signal. Approach and try to have a healthy discussion about it.
5 NEVER STOP SURPRISING EACH OTHER Whether it is through loving embrace, compliments, gifts, movie or dinner dates, do not let the fire die in your marriage. For example, send a bouquet of flowers for your wife at home, or make something nice for your husband for lunch and have it delivered to him. Such small treats go a long way in ensuring that you have an excellent marriage in the long run.
6 SPACE IS CRUCIAL Space is important in a marriage as well. You cannot obviously always be together. When you give some space to your spouse in your marriage, it becomes
healthy and you have room for love and care to grow.
7 CONSCIOUSLY CARE FOR YOUR PARTNER Caring for your spouse should be unconditional in your marriage. Since the two of you have promised to spend the rest of your lives together, being there for one another in times of need or otherwise is essential. Such qualities builds security in your relationship. Apart from this, your children also learn how to care for their parents as well as others in the family.
8 TAKE CARE OF
YOURSELF
While it is extremely important to care for your partner and love them, it is equally crucial for you to take proper care of yourself as well. When you are happy and fit, you get positive feelings and this makes your relationship work well.

Here are some tips to prevent your workouts from dragging

Make time fly at the gym

Here are some tips to prevent your workouts from dragging

We’ve all been there and experienced it. Time seems to come to a standstill when we are at the gym, especially the treadmill. It’s a classic case of relativity as the genius Albert Einstein put it, “When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, you think it’s only a minute. But when you sit on a hot stove for a minute, you think it’s two hours.”
When this happens, we keep dragging ourselves throughout the workout. Here’s a list of tips to keep you motivated from start to finish:
Update your playlist

Why subject yourself to the mercy of radio or music that’s not to your liking being played at the gym? Make a special playlist for the gym with up-tempo tracks. Lookout for list of songs online that work perfectly well for gymming.
Take short breaks

Working out continuously seems like an arduous task, if you’re not fully charged. Taking short breaks will certainly help break the monotony. Besides, pushing your body to its maximum and giving it short recovery periods, aids in faster weight loss. Also, as you’re concentrating on switching your pace, resistance and incline, you won’t realise the time.
Watch your favourite TV shows

If health doesn’t seem like a motivating enough factor to head to the gym, then perhaps, catching your favourite show just might do the trick. When you are engrossed watching your show, you won’t realise how time flies on the treadmill.

Get yourself a gym buddy

How about going to gym along with your partner or friend? Working out won’t seem such a boring task when you have company. You can amplify the intensity of your workout by challenging and competing with each other. Also, if you do feel lazy to go to the gym alone, the lure of company should be motivating enough. In fact, you can motivate each other, if either of you is lagging behind.

5 THINGS YOUR SKIN NEEDS EVERYDAY...

5 THINGS YOUR SKIN NEEDS EVERYDAY...

Your skin needs attention not just once a week, but daily if you want it to be healthy. If you depend on just fortnightly clean up sessions or the monthly facials to prep up your skin, you’re not doing your skin any favours. Here are simple things that your skin needs everyday...

MOISTURISING You skin is sensitive — take good care of it and nourish it with moisturisers.
Moisturisng twice a day is important if you want your skin to look healthy, blemishfree and improve your complexion.

WATER

When you drink water, it flushes out toxins from your body and allows cells to absorb vital nutrients. It also makes sure that your digestive system works properly. And your skin needs water the most to keep it hydrated. It also removes skin impurities, which cause acne and pimples and keeps the skin looking healthy and smooth. Ensure that you have at least eight to 10 glasses of water daily if you want glowing skin.

ANTIOXIDANTS Antioxidants are found in fruits, vegetables, certain fish and oils. Antioxidants have free-radical-fighting activities, which kill molecules that damage healthy cells. Are you getting enough Vitamin C and E? While vitamin C helps build collagen for plump skin, Vitamin E protects cell membranes. Vit C is found in whole grains, apples and citrus fruits, while Vit E is present in wheat germ oil, almonds and peanut butter.

SUNSCREEN No matter how cloudy or rainy it is outside, wearing sunscreen is a must 365 days of the year. Sunscreen not only protects you from skin cancer but also delays the signs of ageing that are caused due to sun exposure. So if you don’t want discoloured, wrinkled, pigmented and flabby skin, ensure that you slap on that sunscreen no matter what. Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it 20 minutes before you step out. Re-apply every few hours so that the effects are maximum.

CLEANSING If you want to remove dirt and grime from your skin and keep it oil free, daily cleansing is an absolute must. Cleansing also removes the residue of all the skin products you use and keeps your skin looking fresh and clean. Use a cleanser that suits your skin type and is soap-free so that it is gentle on your face. Women with extra dry skin should opt for a creamy cleanser while those with sensitive skin should opt for an alcohol-free cleanser. If you have an oily skin, use an acidic cleanser, which breaks up sebum — your skin’s oily secretion that causes clogged pores. When you use a cleanser, gently massage it into your face for about 30 seconds so it gives good results.

Why do we assume Geminis cannot be monogamous?

Why do we assume Geminis cannot be monogamous?

The phrase ‘two-faced’ is often used for Geminis, and it’s not hard to see why — the symbol of this zodiac sign is The Twins. It often leads people to assume that Gemini duality means multiplicity or duplicity, and that it extends to everything, including romantic partners. But is it true that Geminis are by nature compelled to switch partners? There
are many examples to suggest otherwise — you can start by taking a look at the Geminis you personally know. Out of all the people you know, some people cheat or like to keep it casual with multiple partners — and since that’s true for people in general, it’s true for some Geminis as well. But there’s nothing to suggest that Geminis have natural aversion to monogamy. The problem, perhaps, is in the airy detachment that The Twins and other Air signs display towards excessive emotional displays. Your Gemini, Libran or Aquarian partner is unlikely to be very emotional, overly demonstrative or deeply romantic. They’re charming, sure, sweet, talkative and lots of fun, but they’re unlikely to shed tears because they just love you so much. The Air signs are ruled by the head, and hold intellectual pursuits, goals and motives above irrational, emotional ones. It is also true that Geminis do like a multiplicity in interests and pursuits. Their busy, bright minds are easily bored if they keep pouring over the same thing, and they’re constantly looking for new challenges to analyse and discuss. They like people, talking, and people usually fall for their Mercurial charm, which is where trouble arises if they have insecure partners. You have to trust your Mercury man or woman to be true to you if they like you. More than that, you have to be a confident, intelligent individual yourself, if you’d like to hold their attention. They don’t have time for emotional fools or for bolstering your low selfesteem with romantic validation. If you know you’re sharp and you like yourself, there’s no reason your Gemini can’t love you, and only you, for life.

Lifestyle changes to protect heart, reduce death risk

Lifestyle changes to protect heart, reduce death risk

Arecent study led by researchers in the United States said that a four basic changes in one’s lifestyle can help reduce heart risk and prevent death. The study recommends that one must regularly exercise, follow the Mediterranean-style diet, ensure they have a normal weight and, most importantly, refrain from smoking.
It revealed that adopting these changes will ensure one is protected against coronary heart disease as well as the early buildup of calcium deposits in heart arteries, and reduce the chance of death from all causes by 80% over an eight-year period.
“Of all the lifestyle factors, we found that smoking avoidance played the largest role in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease and mortality,” said Roger Blumenthal, senior author of the study.
The researchers emphasize that their study shows the importance of healthy lifestyle habits not just for reducing the risk of heart disease, but also for preventing mortality from all causes.

Home remedies for split ends hair

Home remedies for split ends hair

When you hair doesn’t get enough nourishment or lacks moisture, you get split ends. The reasons for this can be plenty, like sun exposure, harsh shampoos, blow drying, straightening, dyes and bleaches. All these dry out the hair and damage the amino acids in your hair.
Dry and damaged hair breaks easily while styling or brushing. If you think your hair is not growing fast, then split ends could be a possible reason. Here are some easy tips to cure split ends.

ALCOHOL-FREE SHAMPOOS Use alcohol-free shampoos every time you have to wash your hair as alcohol dries out hair. It is best to use shampoos that use natural ingredients. Also, excessive washing with harsh shampoos makes your hair ends dry. You should not shampoo more than thrice a week. It is better to wash your hair every alternate day, not every day. Also, never use hot water to wash your hair.

LET IT DRY NATURALLY Heat is your hair’s worst enemy but it’s hard to completely avoid hair dryers and flat irons. So try to avoid it as much as possible. It is best to apply a heat resistant serum to your hair before using heat. Towel-dry your hair before drying, this way you minimize the damage of heat on wet hair. Also, use flat irons and curlers occasionally instead of every day.

GET A TRIM The best solution for split ends is to get a trim. You get split ends if you don’t trim your hair for a long time. Always trim your hair
once every six to eight weeks to get rid of dry, weak hair.

HOME-MADE TREATMENTS Here are some simple treatments using products most homes will have:
>> Oil massage Oiling restores hair moisture. Massaging your scalp with coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil or a combination of these three is very good for your hair. It’s best to leave it overnight, but if in a hurry, at least keep it for an hour and then wash with a mild shampoo.
>> Egg mask Mix egg yolk in three tablespoons of olive oil and one tablespoon of honey. Gently massage this mask in your hair and cover with a shower cap. Leave on for half an hour and wash with a mild shampoo.
>> Papaya mask Papaya is rich in proteins which your hair needs in order to maintain its shine, moisture and growth. Mash two medium slices of papaya with a fork or in a blender. Mix two tablespoons yoghurt in it, and apply to your scalp and hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap to lock the moisture. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then wash with shampoo.
>> Honey rinse Another easy home-made conditioner for hair is honey. Yes, it sounds sticky but it will do wonders for your hair. Mix two tablespoons honey in four cups warm water and apply to your hair after you shampoo/condition your hair. Leave it in your hair. It will control hair dryness and friz.
