Does a rude guy get customers to buy more?

We've all had that moment when we walk into an expensive store, and the staff looks us up and down like we're shoplifting. We then end up buy something at an outrageous price, and whether the hole in our wallet or the bruise to our ego lasts longer is an unresolved debate. But does this mean that we won't go back? A study suggests that the ruder a luxury store personnel is, the more ready customers are for a round two of retail abuse. We explore the reasons behind this bizarre behaviour.

DON'T YOU WANNA BE COOL?
So what motivates shoppers to walk into stores that will get them nothing but snickers from the staff ? According to an international business site, the feeling of exclusivity increases the brand's appeal. Basically , it's the buyer's version of running favours for the cool kids in the hope that they'll like you. It also becomes a challenge when you feel insulted by the staff's behaviour, and want to make them pay (but in reality , you pay... a lot). A shopper from Chicago recently told news channel, “I was in a Neiman Marcus, dressed nicely , with a Prada bag and nice shoes.
(The salesman) said I wouldn't be interested in the kind of makeup he sold because it was expensive. I got so angry that I ended up buying the $45 (`2,706) eyeliner just to show him I could.“

VALUE GOODS: LESS IS MORE
The study also suggests that for the people who regularly visit high-end shops, rude service will only annoy them. But those who don't go to such places are often motivated to buy the goods. “(It) only really works if you aspire for the brand -if it's something that you want and you don't have. For the consumers that are regular luxury shoppers, they are immune to the effect,“ says Darren Dahl, who co-authored the study.

JUDGE THE BOOK BY ITS COVER
If the staff's look doesn't match the image of the brand, they probably won't make such an impression on you. Saleswomen of fashion brands, for instance, are always impeccably dressed, and tend to intimidate casually dressed customers, who then buy clothes just to fit in.

Last year, during Oprah Winfrey's visit to Switzerland, a saleswoman of a high-end luxury store refused to sell her purse on the grounds that it was too expensive. Oprah spoke out against the incident, causing the brand, the store clerk and the Swiss Tourism Board to apologise.

BY DESIGNERS The famous Kardashian couldn't keep up with fashion trends during a 2013 photo shoot when designers refused to provide her dresses. Despite her popularity, the designers didn't think she was fashionable enough. Prior to her wedding, Kim was snubbed again by none other than Victoria Beckham when Posh refused to design her bridal gown. Sources close to the former Spice Girl said she didn't want to devalue her brand by associating with Kim.

WATCH YOUR WAISTLINE FOR DIABETES RISK

A British health report has warned that adults with a large waistline are five times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. In its report, the Public Health England said they encourage people to monitor their waistline and assess risks of develop ing type 2 diabetes.According to the report, men having a waist circumference of over 40 inches are five times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Women with a waist circumference of over 34.6 inches are three times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
Currently, 90 percent of the adults with type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese, and the prevalence of both obesity and diabetes are on the increase, said experts. Being overweight or obese is the main avoidable risk factor for type 2 diabetes, they added.
The key to reducing your chances of type 2 diabetes is losing weight which can be achieved through a healthy diet and being more active.

आर.टी.ओ. कार्यालयात काम करणारी एक व्यक्ती माझ्यासमोर रेल्वेत बसली होती. प्रवास सुरु असतानाच मला नांदेडमधून माझ्या एका पेशंटचा फोन आला. आमचे बोलणे समोर बसलेली ही व्यक्ती लक्षपूर्वक ऐकत होती. बोलणे संपल्यावर त्या व्यक्तीने स्वतःचा परिचय करुन दिला आणि मला विचारले, ‘‘ तुम्ही डॉक्टर आहात का ?’’ मी उत्तर दिले, नाही... मी निसर्गोपचार सल्लागार आहे.’’ माझ्या उत्तराने त्यांची जिज्ञासा जागी झाली आणि त्यांनी आपले शारीरिक त्रास मला सांगायला सुरुवात केली. त्यांचे सुमारे अर्धातास ऐकून घेतल्यावर माझ्या लक्षात आले की, त्यांना काहीही झालेले नाही. शरीराची दैनंदिन गरज भागविण्यासाठी आणि शरीराची होणारी झीज भरुन काढण्यासाठी जे घटक शरीरात दररोज गेले पाहिजेत ते त्यांना पुरेशा प्रमाणात मिळत नाहीत. त्यामुळे त्यांना सतत थकल्यासारखे वाटणे, उत्साह नसणे, वजन वाढणे, पोट साफ न होणे, साथीच्या रोगांची तात्काळ लागण होणे, जडत्व आल्यासारखे वाटणे, सारखे झोपून रहावे असे वाटणे, वारंवार पित्त होणे अशा अनेक त्रासांना सामोरे जावे लागत आहे. या सगळ्याचा परिणाम त्यांच्या कामावर आणि करिअरवर झाला आहे. त्यातच भरीस भर म्हणून आधुनिक वैद्यक शास्त्राच्या तज्ज्ञांनी त्यांना करावयास लावलेल्या एक्स रे पासून एम.आर.आय. पर्यंतच्या अनेक तपासण्या आणि घ्यायला लावलेली औषधे याच्या खर्चामुळे ते पार वैतागून गेले होते. इतके करुनही त्यांना बरे वाटत नव्हतेच हा भाग वेगळाच! !

काय आहे स्पिरुलिना ?

स्पिरुलिना ही निळ्या हिरव्या रंगाची आणि अनेक शाखा असणारी फोटोसिंथेटिक पाणवनस्पती आहे. प्रामुख्याने ही वनस्पती समुद्रात आढळते. शेवाळ्यासारखी असणारी ही वनस्पती तिच्या नागमोडी आकारामुळे ‘स्पिरुलिना’ या नावाने ओळखली जाते. मेक्सिको आणि मध्य आफ्रिकेतील लोक ही वनस्पती अगदी नैसर्गिक स्वरुपातही खातात. शास्त्रज्ञांना स्पिरुलिनातील पोषक तत्वांचा शोध सन १९६० मध्ये लागला. त्यानंतर स्पिरुलिना पृथ्वीवरील सर्वात शक्तीवर्धक प्रोबायोटिक पूरक अन्न म्हणून जगभरात वापरण्यात येवू लागले. आज जगभरातून लाखो लोक याचा पूरक अन्न म्हणून बिनधास्तपणे वापर करत असतात. इतकेच नव्हे तर सन १९७४ मध्ये अन्न आणि कृषी संघटनेने सर्वात चांगले शक्तीवर्धक पूरक अन्न म्हणून स्पिरुलिनाचे समर्थन केले आहे. सन १९८१ मध्ये फूड ऍण्ड ड्रग्ज ऍडमिनिस्ट्रेशननेही स्पिरुलिनाचा गौरव केला आहे. सन १९८३ मध्ये पश्‍चिम जर्मनीच्या इंटरनॅशनल फूड एक्स्पोजर या संस्थेनेही स्पिरुलिनाचे समर्थन केले आहे.

स्पिरुलिनातून काय मिळते ?

उत्तम जीवन, शक्तीशाली आणि सुदृढ शरीर यासाठी स्पिरुलिना हा आदर्श पूरक आहार आहे हे त्यातून मिळणारे घटक पाहिले की लगेच लक्षात येईल. रोज सकाळी एक आणि रात्री एक याप्रमाणे सलग सहा दिवस स्पिरुलिनाच्या बारा कॅप्सूल्स पोटात गेल्या (साधारण ६००० मिलीग्रॅम) तर शरीराला खालीलप्रमाणे पोषक घटक मिळतात.

१) बीटाकॅरेटिन ः ५६ ग्लास गाईचे दूध प्याल्यावर अथवा ५५० सफरचंद खाल्ल्यावर जितके बीटाकॅरेटिन मिळेल तितके आणि गाजरापेक्षा २५ पट अधिक

२) व्हिटॅमिन बी १ ः हिरव्या मिरच्या २० खाल्ल्यावर जितके मिळेल इतके

३) व्हिटॅमिन बी २ ः ४२० द्राक्षे अथवा ४७ स्ट्रॉबेरीज खाल्ल्यावर जितके मिळेल इतके.

४) व्हिटॅमिन बी ३ ः आठ लिंबू खाल्ल्यावर जितके मिळते तितके

५) व्हिटॅमिन बी ६ ः ९० ग्रॅम ब्रेडपासून जितके मिळते तितके

६) व्हिटॅमिन बी १२ ः २४० ग्रॅम पनीर पासून जितके मिळते तेवढे

७) व्हिटॅमिन ई ः चिकनचे सहा तुकडे खाल्ल्यावर जितके मिळेल तितके. पालेभाज्यांपेक्षा ३ टक्के अधिक

७) प्रोटिन्स ः पालेभाज्यांपेक्षा ६० टक्के अधिक, दुधापेक्षा १४ टक्के अधिक, अंड्यापेक्षा ६ टक्के अधिक तर कडधान्यापेक्षा ३ टक्के अधिक

८) जैविक लोह घटक ः पालेभाज्यांपेक्षा पाच ते आठ पट अधिक

९) क्लोरोफिल ः अल्फा अल्फापेक्षा ५ ते ३० पट अधिक

याशिवाय स्पिरुलिनामध्ये २९ टक्के फॅटी ऍसिड असते. त्यामुळे शरीरातील घातक कोलेस्ट्रॉल हटवले जाते, चरबी वितळवून शरीराबाहेर टाकली जाते आणि हृदयाचे रक्षण होते.

स्पिरुलिना कोणत्या आजारात फायदेशीर आहे ?
