How to deal with rosacea

How to deal with rosacea

While most of us get the odd pimple or a sudden breakout due to hormonal changes, a skin condition that affects a considerable number of people is rosacea. Predominantly affecting the facial area, it causes your skin to redden, starting like a blush and then appearing to cover the face in a reddish or pinkish tinge. It is a common skin condition, which unfortunately is chronic but can be controlled. Although it may seem harmless, rosacea can cause a number of problems for an individual suffering from it. While a red face may seem innocuous, other symptoms include small pimples, an enlarged, red nose and even swollen eyelids or conjunctivitis.
Rosacea can also affect the areas around your neck, back and chest. Skin experts say that it occurs when there is a disorder in your blood vessels that causes the redness and at times, even pus filled boils. Other triggers include high stress levels and fungal infections, so ensure that you find ways to destress and maintain good hygiene standards. Also, since dryness, itchiness and swelling are common symptoms of rosacea, ensure that you use a good moisturiser to keep your skin clean, nourished and healthy. There are a number of medicated creams or gels available in the market but always use those prescribed by your dermatologist. Self medicating might cause more harm than good.
