Nashik farmer, engineer son develop multipurpose, energy-efficient stove

A 51-year-old farmer Navnath Kisan Pawar in Kandalwadi village of Nashik district has conceptualised a stove which is not only energy efficient but has multipurpose use. Navnath along with his son Rajendra Pawar developed the stove. His engineer son Rajendra, who has eight patents in the field of energy innovations worked on the technical aspects of the stove.
The heat generated in the traditional stove gets wasted. But this model developed by Navnath uses the same to warm the water.
This stove is simple and has two parts. On the top a utensil can be placed and there is a tube that winds around the stove, which will heat the water.
Rajendra explains, “The inner core structure of the stove is lined by reflectories, for proportional distribution of heat. The tube has a heat exchanger through which the cold water will be passed and the outlet will release hot water. The insulation layer is of glass wool which in one and half inches thickness to avoid loss of heat and the outer body is aluminium or stainless steel.”
The stove can be attached to a water tank with help of pipes and it will pick up cold water. As the density of hot water is less natural circulation will allow thermo siphoning and no pump will be required to lift water.
“This is simple design to achieve maximum utility of the fuel burnt in the stove. In case the stove is used with coal or wood fuel for about one and half to two hours, about 200 litres of water can be heated and used the next day for bath. No extra fuel will be needed to heat this water,” states Rajendra.
His father who was motivated by the experiments that his son does, says, “It’s necessary to conserve fuel as it is a natural source. However, in most of the rural areas food is still cooked on the traditional stove and natural fuel is used. In such a scenario we need to increase the efficiency and save it. This stove will save about 20-25% fuel and increase the efficiency of the stove by 75%.”
Rajendra further adds that his effort further is to improve the air fuel ratio and reduce the pollution caused by the release of carbon dioxide and sulphur in any stove. “I want to fit a solar fan to improve the air fuel ratio and reduce the pollution,” he says.
