Designer David Abraham, of the design duo Abraham & Thakore, is not afraid to push his creative limits; says their Autumn/Winter line for next fall is ready

The true test of creativity, they say, is when the artist in question is not hesitant to push the boundaries. Fashion designers are no exception to this and designer duo Abraham & Thakore seem to have joined the bandwagon of artistes waiting to explore possibilities beyond conventional boundaries. Abraham & Thakore, who are gearing up to be part of a fashion broadway later this month, say that this is one experience they will truly cherish.
David Abraham, of the design duo, admits that creating outfits for young actors, part of a musical broadway, to be directed by director Rohan Sippy (of Bluffmaster fame), is a new experience for them, and one that they are glad they took on. Ask David to give a sneak peek into the designs he has in mind for this new project and he says that it is still too early to divulge the entire look. "But yes, I can tell you that we are looking at glamour, nostalgia and elegance… and perhaps a certain stylish abstract factor to top it all. Rohan's vision sets the action squarely in a very particular environment at a very exciting time. The challenge for us is to interpret and convey this through the costumes," says David. He adds that he and Rakesh (Thakore) have already begun work on an Autumn/Winter line for 2012-2013. "In fact, it has already hit the stores!" says an elated David.
Given that the city barely has a winter to allow fashionistas to indulge in winter wear, David recommends, "Layering is the first step in winter dressing, especially for the different climates of Delhi and Mumbai. This involves building on stylish co-ordinates, such as basic tunics, dresses and trousers, which are then layered with light-weight wraps and jackets. Finally, add an easy kimono style coat, which you can wear over almost everything — right from a sari to denims when it is really cold," says David. The second step, he adds, is getting the colours absolutely right. "The autumn winter colour palette is deeper and richer and the fabrics can be more lustrous too," he says.
