Actor Raveena Tandon says that she whole heartedly supports the DNA I Can Women’s Half Marathon initiative and espcially the cause for the girl child education. The actor herself is closely associated with several NGOs that work towards empowering little girls by educating them. It is a cause that is very close to her heart.

“After years of working with several national and international NGO’s, I’ve learnt that most men, especially in the rurual areas, think that educating women is a waste of their time. But they forget that it is a woman that holds the family together. If she is not educated and aware of what is happening around her, how will she pass on the information to her children?” she quizzes.

Education, asserts Raveena, is not only about getting a high-profile job in a corporate company, but about knowing their rights. “A woman has to know her rights in society, what is right and what is wrong for her. She should also be aware of basic hygiene issues. During one campaign, I was shocked to learn that the children of women in a rural area were being born with deformities because they didn’t know the importance of taking folic acid when pregnant. Women today are turning entreprenuers and it’s only when they know what the government has to do for her progress that she will be successful in her ventures,” says Raveena.
