Poetic musings about the real man

Poetic musings about the real man

The Kolkata Book Fair, which concluded recently, saw the launch of Shomshuklla’s second book of Bengali poetry titled Eekti Manusher Khoje (searching for the real man). The book, the sixth in her repertoire, was launched by renowned author Bani Bose and actor Nigel Akkar. While Bose praised Shomshuklla’s writing and said that it signified the birth of a new generation of Bengali poets, Nigel appreciated the style of her poetry and her search for the “real man”. The ambience of Kolkata, which breathes literature, was the perfect setting for the book’s release.
Shomshuklla’s had a busy fortnight, as she followed up her Kolkata event with a poetry reading session at the ongoing The Times of India Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in the city. Excerpts from her collection of English poetry were read at the event, which also included discussions about epics, mythology, nature, the city, etc, highlighting her sensitive reflections. She also gave a talk at a film institute recently, where she told youngsters that “believing in yourself” is the the formula to success. And that is also what she writes about in her poetry.
