Blow away those hair woes!
A recent survey reveals that dry hair and split ends are the major hair issues for metro women in the monsoons

Findings of a recent hair care survey conducted by AC Nielson in association with Dove revealed that dryness and split ends are two hair care problems faced by most women in the metros. While 55 per cent of the women thought their hair became rough and dry after a wash, 22 per cent of the women faced the problem of split ends. Fifty-five per cent women experienced dry hair after a wash; 92 per cent believed that their hair needed special nourishment; 49 per cent felt they ended up damaging their hair in the process of beautifying; and 22 per cent faced the problem of split ends.
Research shows that while women are conscious and aware of the hair damage caused by thermal factors such as blow drying, flat ironing or any other hair treatment that involves usage of heat to style and manipulate hair, most women are unaware of the methods and treatments they must use to revent the damage caused by environmental factors. In addition, 91 per cent of the respondents thought their hair lacked nourishment since they are unable to oil regularly, due to their hectic lifestyle.
Hair stylists have repeatedly raised caution against surface and internal damage of hair caused by pollution, sun, lifestyle and other varied reasons. They argue that rain containing pollutants damages the hair shaft and weakens the hair in the process. Furthermore, humidity in the air also makes the hair. Speaking in a similar vein, Dr. Rohini Wadhwani, Medical Director, Skin Essentials says “Most of my women clients in the age group of 25-45 are increasingly concerned about hair issues like split ends and dryness which indicates damage. I think it is important to use the right products that address these specific issues. Shampoos and conditioners fortified with oils or moisturisers are recommended for excessively dry hair with split ends. Additionally, use of serums, masks and overnight treatments designed for specific hair issues help maintain hair health in the long run.”
Moreover, following simple steps such as styling of hair with a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush, usage of cold water to rinse the hair, and trimming of hair four times a year can also help prevent dryness and split ends.
