First-time showcasing their creations at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012, designers Kaabia and Sasha Grewal’s collection highlighted the fierceness within the woman. Inspired by ‘Leone d’oro’ — the golden lion, the sisters’ line, Outhouse celebrated the various moods of a woman through structured metallic form with spiked necklaces and large rear pendants, cascading chains, lapel necklace and cuffs. Totally mesmerising were the collar cum belts with a long metal placket connecting them. “While the drama on stage comes from combining pieces, for everyday a single piece is suitable, like a belt or earrings to add glamour and make a statement factor, says Kaabia.
Felix Bendish’s showcased his collection of brooches, neckpieces and cocktail headbands in his signature embroidery style with fiery orange feathers. It was a tribute to epic artist Henri Matisse, he says and aptly named Flow. “The theme was fluidity, and therefore I choose to use feathers, which is also used worldwide in high fashion that is my focus,” says Felix.
Sannam Chopra’s collection, Medieval Pop, is her interpretation of the medieval world through the eyes of a woman. All the pieces are made of leather, accentuated with the use of crystals, metal rivets and chains. One of her distinctive pieces is a shield cape necklace. “I created this piece so that girls can wear leather even in Mumbai weather,”Kaabia says. Her collection also saw some simple yet elegant leather handbags that are perfect for the working woman.
