A balance between peace, success

A balance between peace, success

In city to give a discourse on the Bhagavad Gita, Sunandaji – daughter-disciple of Swami Parthasarathy -- will focus on the 20 great human values that help one find balance between peace and achievement. The five-day discourse beginning on Saturday will focus on the Gita’s 13th chapter. Sunandaji spoke to DNA about it.
Tell us about what you are going to talk – the 20 great human values.
These values are basically qualities in a person which term a person scholarly. They are universal, eternal and scientific. These are humility, unpretentiousness, Ahimsa, forgiveness and uprightness among others.
What practical use can they be to people?
These qualities are largely not understood in the practicality of life. My father and guru Swami Parthasarathy has spent a lot of time ensuring that their scientific aspect can be taught. Mostly people are stuck with their theological aspects or do not understand them properly. For example, Ahimsa is usually understood as non-aggression. These words are to be understood as per the situation. A person with wrong intentions could be aggressive with you. In such a situation, being passive may be acceptance. So one has to be aggressive or else we allow unrighteousness (to win over). Aggression needs to be used in a selfless manner.
Why are you focusing on one chapter?
Every year, we take up one chapter a nd this time it is the 13th chapter. In its philosophical message, it talks about success and achievement. People tend to lose out on one. If they are achievers, they are not at peace. The idea is to have dynamism and peace in one breath.
