Long hair, beard? Colaba police are looking for you

Long hair, beard? Colaba police are looking for you

Men living in the Cuffe Parade and Colaba area, particularly those with long hair and beards, are running scared. The reason: post the murder and rape of two minor girls, the police have been picking up and taking DNA samples of such men to find the culprit.
Till now, police have sent the DNA samples of around 700 men. “One of the minor girls who alleged that the men tried to kidnap her has long hair and a beard hence we are picking up whoever has these facial similarities,” said senior police inspector, Vinod Sawant from the Colaba police station.
According to the police, the number of samples the Forensic lab has received from Colaba and Cuffe Parade related to this case is more than the number of samples submitted from different parts of Maharashtra.
The results of 140 samples have returned negative. Police have also tried matching the samples with the DNA samples of the Nehru Nagar rape accused but with no luck.
“After my son was picked up by the police, I asked him to shave and cut his hair. Now people here are scared of growing their hair and beards to avoid police hassles,” said Kamala Mane (name changed) from Cuffe Parade. Another man whose DNA sample was taken by the police has also cut off his hair short and shaved his beard. “I have asked my friends not to grow their and beard If they want to avoid unnecessary problem from the police,” said Rahul Chavan (name changed).
