Who doesn't love the frenzy
of endless parties and get-togethers during Diwali? With so much
excitement in the air here are some expert tips on dressing for
theme parties
Come Diwali, and the routine
of frantically scouring your wardrobe becomes an everyday affair. At a
time, when your social calendar is choca-bloc with umpteen
get-togethers, bring out the fashionista in you to dress according to
the oc casion (read: theme parties).
Fashion experts tell you the rules.
BRING ON THE VINTAGE CHARM
While
being regal and opulent
is the key, add a modern twist to your vintage look. Fashion
designer Neeta Lulla shares, “Dig into your cupboard and
bring out any old piece of jew ellery or a piece of ensemble like a
blouse, kurta, dupatta, salwar, lehenga or a sari that can
be dressed up with contemporary pieces to create a vintage look. For a
traditional look, team
any of the garments with a combination silhouette in a pure, rich fabric
and couple it with a traditional piece of jewellery; wear a hair bun,
a loose plait, or perhaps a low bun to complete the look.
To give a modern twist to this look, com
bine vin tage with contemporary.
Try kurtis with basic den ims; a black, cocktail dress with vintage jew ellery; mojris with short casual dresses.
GO RETRO
While
fashion is constantly changing and evolv
ing, the rule that `everything old is totally new again' is certainly
applicable when it comes to the retro vibe. Stitched, double-draped
saris or palazzo pants are your go-to outfits when gearing up for a
retro party. For men, narrow, tapered trousers with fitted shirts and
slim ties can work wonders. Fashion designer Pawan Sachdeva guides us on
how to play
up the retro look with ease.
The fun part about
this theme is that you can mix-and match clothes to add an edge to
your look.Keeping in mind the fes
tive season, wear a simple sari; it can be re-stitched in a double or
tripledraped style. A big thumbs-up to the pant sari as it's a perfect
combination of the retro and modern look.
QUIRK IT UP
If
you have a thing for quirky fashion, don't shy away from throwing a
quirky-themed party that can add more colour to your soiree. Fashion
designer Chhaya Mehrotra tells us about quirky dressing this season.
Embrace the neon palette this Diwali.Blend the eccentricity of
neon-painted fabrics with the festival of lights. Think of a plain sari
with an electric-coloured
blouse, or a sari dyed in bright colours or a lay ered lehenga with a
mélang of vibrant hues.
Being ex perimental with this trend can
be quite tricky, especially keep. ing the festive ardor in mind.
Try pairing a sari with a crop top or a corset to look versatile.
Add zing to the look by wearing chain bangles and long earrings.
