A FESTIVE APPROACH
Diwali is a festival of jamboree--the
perfect time to host and be hosted. Embellish your home with sparkling
lights and bright colours; sumptuous feasts and celebratory parties are
the highlights of this season. First impressions go a long
way; therefore, focus on prettying up the entrance of your home.
Celebrity interior designer Twinkle Khanna from The White Window says,
“Accessorise the entrance. Freshly-painted walls and brand new furniture
aren't enough; with a wide range of choices avail able, you can opt for
a variety of home décor accents that cab break the monotony. Add an
interesting mix of coloured diyas to brighten up this space. Floral
arrangement is another favourite; marigold bandanwar or torans
traditionally used at the entrance add a cheerful vibe. For a different
touch, you can also make tissue and coloured paper torans, which can be
used to embellish the
backyards and main doors that have high ceilings. Besides, dried flowers
and leaves can be used to make an ethnic rangoli.“
CREATIVE SPACES
Be it a modern space or a classic one, this festive season, opt for a
home makeover. “You can deck up your house, especially the living room
and dining room, for great presentation. Use some fresh flowers to leave
your home looking and smelling good and include some candles with
alluring candle votives to create an atmosphere of warmth. Dress your
cushions with picturesque cushion covers that have interesting Indian
motifs, print placements and bright de signs,“ suggests Krsna Mehta, de
sign director and partner, India Circus. Deeper tones, silk upholstery
with ikat work, extravagant ornamentations, luxe motifs lend a
glamorous twist to your living room.
Vivek Gupta, founder, The Big Door, avers, “Use conversation pieces as
the highlight of your room. Don't limit it to an exquisite set; make it
interesting with standalone pieces like a mini boat that can be used as a
snack bar, intricately carved marble centrepieces to place fruits, or
motherof-pearl platters to serve sweets desserts.Add some colour by
accessorising with velvet cushion covers in bright hues.Decorate your
corners with wooden candle stands made out of old pillars. You can also
add some drama to your walls with framed glass paintings, etc.“
