BRING HOME FESTIVE SPLENDOUR





This Diwali, bring home happiness by curating the décor of your home in a way that it reflects the festive spirit all around

This is an auspicious period; it's the time to soak in the divinity and welcome home happiness.Here are some ideas to spruce up your home décor and give it a dose of elegance.

A FESTIVE APPROACH

Diwali is a festival of jamboree--the perfect time to host and be hosted. Embellish your home with sparkling lights and bright colours; sumptuous feasts and celebratory parties are the highlights of this season. First impressions go a long way; therefore, focus on prettying up the entrance of your home. Celebrity interior designer Twinkle Khanna from The White Window says, “Accessorise the entrance. Freshly-painted walls and brand new furniture aren't enough; with a wide range of choices avail able, you can opt for a variety of home décor accents that cab break the monotony. Add an interesting mix of coloured diyas to brighten up this space. Floral arrangement is another favourite; marigold bandanwar or torans traditionally used at the entrance add a cheerful vibe. For a different touch, you can also make tissue and coloured paper torans, which can be used to embellish the backyards and main doors that have high ceilings. Besides, dried flowers and leaves can be used to make an ethnic rangoli.“

CREATIVE SPACES

Be it a modern space or a classic one, this festive season, opt for a home makeover. “You can deck up your house, especially the living room and dining room, for great presentation. Use some fresh flowers to leave your home looking and smelling good and include some candles with alluring candle votives to create an atmosphere of warmth. Dress your cushions with picturesque cushion covers that have interesting Indian motifs, print placements and bright de signs,“ suggests Krsna Mehta, de sign director and partner, India Circus. Deeper tones, silk upholstery with ikat work, extravagant ornamentations, luxe motifs lend a glamorous twist to your living room. Vivek Gupta, founder, The Big Door, avers, “Use conversation pieces as the highlight of your room. Don't limit it to an exquisite set; make it interesting with standalone pieces like a mini boat that can be used as a snack bar, intricately carved marble centrepieces to place fruits, or motherof-pearl platters to serve sweets desserts.Add some colour by accessorising with velvet cushion covers in bright hues.Decorate your corners with wooden candle stands made out of old pillars. You can also add some drama to your walls with framed glass paintings, etc.“

Timeless curios

Trendy picks, pretty additions and stylish pieces with a festive glow, when picking out décor pieces for Diwali, remember to select smart curios that have a timeless appeal. Divita Kanoria, chief wellness officer, The Vedic Collection, says, “Tibetan mandalas, painted key cupboards, abstract paintings with a nice wooden frame, a charpai set, are some ideas that can be used as Diwali décor items.“

Adding to the list, Rajat Singhi, founder and creative director, Address Home, says, “From ceramic flowers, butterflies to metal and mirror accents, you can choose a perfect wall art to transform your home's appearance and make it more inviting.“

Bow your head in devotion; thank Him for all that you received and all that He wills for you this coming year. And while you pay your reverence, remember to do so in a pretty room. The puja room is of utmost importance during Diwali. Rohina Anand, director, AA Living, suggests, “Cover the puja table with a beautiful, brightly coloured cloth before placing the idols. Place a puja thali in front of the idols.Decorate the place with fresh flowers, candles and earthen lamps.Offer fresh flower garlands to the idols and use lots of fresh flowers in the decoration.“
