Contraception
Pill 72, I-Pill and Unwanted 72 are just some of the many emergency
pills hoarding the limelight these days. The ease of availability and
usage makes them very popular among couples. But there is a wrong sense
of being in total control. The emergency contraceptive pills do contain a
high amount of hormones. They are recommended to be used under medical
supervision. Repeated use over a long period can have serious
consequences. Nausea, stomach upset, vomiting, irregular periods are
some of the common side effects. They also do not offer any protection
against sexually transmitted diseases. With repeated use, the genital
system may be affected and in the long term, these pills may lead to
problems with conception too. If used judiciously they are a great
addition to the contraceptive armamentarium, useful in cases of rape,
failure of regular contraceptives etc.
