Keep glowing this festive season

Keep glowing this festive season

Here’s how you can help your skin look younger and healthier

Who says you need to go in for expensive spa treatments always to look your best? Some simple skin care tips, if followed diligently, can make a visible difference to your skin.

MASSAGE YOUR FACE A facial massage is one of the easiest and most basic of skin care routines. Experts say that a massage can help collagen formation and thereby restore your skin’s elasticity.
Ritu Tanwar, aesthetician, says, “Before you retire for the night, thoroughly clean your face. Take a little moisturiser or your favourite night-cream in your hand and using light upward strokes, massage it in. This will be like your at-home mini facial.”

SLEEP RIGHT, BEAT WRINKLES According to a report of the
American Academy of Dermatology, sleeping in the same position night after night can lead to wrinkles that don’t disappear once you’re up. They also note that sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on the cheeks and chin, while sleeping face down gives you a furrowed brow. Your best bet for smoother skin is to sleep face up, on your back.

COMBAT ACNE NSLAUGHT “The most important thing to keep in mind is to use cosmetics that are noncomedogenic — ones that do not clog pores,” says dermatologist Dr Sushil Tahiliani. And make sure that you clean your skin completely once the day is over. Leftover makeup can seriously damage skin warn experts.

SWAP HANDS WHEN YOU APPLY SUNSCREEN Studies show that righthanded people put more
sunscreen on the left side of their body than their right and vice versa, which can mean important areas miss out on adequate sun protection.
Try swapping hands during -application to ensure more even coverage.

AVOID SQUINTING When you are out in the sun without your sunglasses, you could damage not just your eyes, thanks to the harmful UV rays. Squinting to see properly in the harsh sunlight can give rise to unflattering wrinkles and fine lines. Dr Jaishree Manchanda, cosmetologist, says, “Always go out wearing sun screen with a high SPF.”

EXFOLIATE When not overdone, exfoliation is a must and is very useful to get rid of your dead skin cells. Dr Jamuna Pai, cosmetic physician, says, “Dead skin on the surface of your skin can make it look dull. Use a light scrubbing cream and gently
exfoliate. But avoid using a scrub everyday.”

MEDITATE Stress can really affect you physically, states psychologist Seema Hingorrany. “Relaxing activities like meditation can really make a difference,” she says. Ritu adds, “Stress can ruin your hair and skin, so yoga and regular exercising is a must.”
