Creating bonds for life
Disney has tied up with the Ryan International Group for their outreach programmes in India. This is Disney’s first such tie-up in the country. The initiative aligns with Ryan Group’s commitment to provide holistic education to every student in India. Outreach programmes executed by the group will involve educating children on various aspects of environment, sanitation and hygiene, through the medium of famous Disney cartoon characters and painted messages. The initiative, called Club Penguin ‘Coins for Change’, will see virtual coins donated by players being matched with real dollars. The funds generated thus will be used for various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
The event got off to a grand start with the students of Ryan International School, Chembur, reaching out to their counterparts in Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools for a tree-plantation drive.
Ryan Pinto, CEO of Ryan International and Nicole Rustad, Program Director, CSR Disney Worldwide, launched the project at Ghatkopar’s Ramabai Municipal School, which is located in the Ramabai Nagar slums. Pinto said, “As a part of our commitment to the overall development of children, it gives us great pleasure to participate in the Club Penguin Coins for Change Program of Disney. This is for the first time in the world that Coins for Change is partnering with a private educational institution and we are very excited about it.”
Rustad reiterated the commitment Disney has towards CSR and their strategic partnerships with non-governmental agencies across the world. She said children from all strata of society are the future of the nation. Hence, inculcating values through easy mediums such as cartoons are a must. While 18 schools have been taken up for the project in the first phase, more will be added to the list next year. The BMC plans to implement the project in all its 1,336 schools that have classes from KG to IV.
