Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram

Every year, over 70,000 women
in India die of complications
that arise during childbirth,
while 17 lakh children are
stillborn. To bring down motherchild
mortality rates, Janani
Shishu Suraksha Karyakram
(JSSK) was launched in Thane
district. Under this scheme, natal
care is provided to pregnant
women and newborns. They are
provided free medical treatment,
food and transport facilities.
From April, 2012, to November,
2012, this scheme has
helped over 20,173 pregnant
women. Around 2,663 babies
were provided medical care and
501 were referred to hospitals.
"We also provide home to hospital
pick-up and drop facility
for the pregnant women and
babies," Lalita Jadhav, in-charge,
JSSK, says.
