I work in the same school where my son studies

I work in the same school where my son studies.Though I try not to get involved in every activity of his, except for when I have to attend the PTA meetings, his teachers end up telling me what he does during class hours. This is something my son, who is in class 9, does not like. He now wants me to either change to another school or stop working altogether. How do I tackle this? -

This is a challenge only you can address. As a teacher-parent, you will need loads of self-control, discretion and will power to keep the two sides separate. And it would make things easier if you can share this with his teachers and your colleagues, too. For a child, especially a teenager, his school environment, his peers and teachers affect a large part of his daily life. Be extra careful when you interact with him and his teachers while in school. It is difficult to forget the mother in you, but you will have to do so in the interest of your child, who is entitled to be like all other children in his class. Regarding changing to another school, you will have to consider the implications of availability , coordination, school schedules etc. If those work out and you are comfortable with the change and feel that it is absolutely imperative for your son's sake, then go ahead. Or else, you can explain to your son the practical challenges and together arrive at a strategy that you can use to iron out the problems he faces. It's important to remember that since you are in the same school, you may have access to lots of information which should not be shared. Take great care when you discuss work issues at home and home issues at work. Keep the personal and professional apart. A lot depends on how you balance the two.
