Google adds Hindi to its voice search
I&B minister Prakash
Javadekar on Monday said that the internet could touch the lives of 30
crore new users if more Indian language content was provided. “If
Internet is available in Indian languages, then internet usage will go
up to 50 crore,“ he said, inaugurating the Indian Language Internet
Alliance (ILIA).
Google has launched ILIA with industry partners to promote growth of Indian language content online. Through its efforts, ILIA aims to bring 30 crore people Indian language speakers to become engaged internet users by 2017. Google, which currently offers voice search in English, has also launched a Hindi language service and plans to add Tamil, Marathi and Bengali to the list.
